Before: A Hard-Working Crew Buried Under a Soft Online Presence
Travis Barkman can finish a driveway so smooth you could eat breakfast off it, but his old website looked more like a pothole than a portfolio. He had a buddy managing it nice guy, but not a web guy and when that fella retired, the site started crumbling faster than a cheap sidewalk in February.
Travis called me and said, “Matt, I just need people to find me when they Google ‘concrete near me.’”
I said, “Perfect. I’ll pour the foundation you bring the rebar.”
The Goal: Build Something That Lasts Online Too
Travis wanted three things: a site that looked professional, ranked locally, and made it simple for customers to reach out for quotes. He also wanted his real project photos not stock concrete slabs front and center. My goal? Build a website that felt as sturdy as the work he does every day.
What We Built (and Yes, It’s Level to the Pixel)
- Platform: WordPress + Avada Theme
- Pages: Home, About, Services, Gallery, Blog, Contact
- Features: Project photo gallery, custom quote form, on-page SEO, and mobile-optimized design
The homepage acts like a virtual job site clean lines, solid structure, no wasted motion. Visitors instantly see who he is, what he does, and how to call him. It’s the kind of site you can navigate with work gloves on.
Branding, Copy & Design
The branding matches Barkman’s work ethic: bold fonts, concrete grays with orange accents, and no fluff. The copy keeps it simple straightforward headlines like “Driveways That Last” and “Concrete Built to Be Seen.” It feels authentic because it is everything on the site comes from his actual projects and his reputation for being on time and on budget.
SEO & Big Online Energy
This was a full Big Online Energy Solution build. We optimized for local keywords like “concrete driveways Mendota IL,” “flatwork contractors LaSalle County,” and “foundation repair near me.” The site structure was built for Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), so Google actually understands his services instead of just guessing. We also made sure his emails were synced across devices so when a lead hits that form, it goes straight to his pocket, not a spam folder in the cloud.
Travis also opted into our yearly marketing plan, which means we’re tracking his growth and adding new local SEO content each season to keep those leads rolling in like fresh cement.
Results & Wins
Before: Outdated DIY site with no traffic and zero Google presence.
After: Professional WordPress build with strong rankings, local visibility, and steady form leads every month.
Travis said, “It’s easy to use, and people actually call me now.” Simple as that. He went from hoping people found him to knowing they do. That’s what happens when you build on a solid foundation.
Local Story
I first met Travis years ago on a job site a guy covered in dust but smiling like he just poured the perfect slab. We both call LaSalle County home, so seeing him grow with a strong online presence hits close to home. From Mendota to Peru to Ottawa, you can spot his work on half the driveways you pass and now you can see it online too.
Testimonial
“Matt got me set up with a website that actually works. Calls come in, emails come through, and people know I’m local and legit. Couldn’t ask for more.”
